Surgical Margins: Key to Successful Surgery
The evaluation of surgical margins is crucial in determining the appropriateness of a surgical procedure. A surgical margin is defined as the tissue removed furthest from the lesion location and adjacent to what was still present in vivo. The reading of margins is essential for any type of melanoma, especially those with a high level of local infiltration, which translates into a high potential for recurrence.
Clinical studies have shown that adequate excision margins can improve overall patient survival.
To support this diagnostics, Bio-Optica offers a set of margin markers in seven different colors, based on natural polymers. These markers are used for the identification and orientation of surgical margins, formulated to define margins without color changes or fading and without staining the solvents used for fixation and processing.
Among the unique features of Bio-Optica's dyes are the complete non-toxicity of the product, free of harmful components. This ensures the safety of the operator. Additionally, thanks to the immediate adhesion to the tissue, which stabilizes in 2-3 minutes, it is possible to perform a single staining step without the use of reagents to fix the colors to the section under investigation.
Bio-Optica's markers are formulated to ensure precise margin definition without color changes or fading. The dyes are resistant to the solvents used for fixation and processing, ensuring that the margins remain clearly visible throughout the analysis process. Furthermore, the variety of available colors allows for easy identification and orientation of surgical margins, improving the efficiency and accuracy of the diagnostic process.
